Golf handicaps

Explaining golf handicaps to a person who has never played golf is like explaining a touchdown to a person who knows nothing about American football. In other words, you have to know a lot about golf to know what a golf handicap means. You have to be over the beginner level and way into the expert level. So, let me first brief you about the game of golf and how it is played.

Golf is played over 18 holes and in these holes are the par 3\’s, the par4\’s and the par 5\’s .What differentiates these three sets of holes is the distance between one and the other. The number of these holes is not the same but in some courses this might be the case. The distance between a par 3 and another par 3 is the shortest while the distance between 2 par 5\’s is the longest. It takes skill and expertise to reach a par 5 hole with one shot. In other words the chances of a novice to be able to play and score in a par 5 hole are almost none.

The golf handicap system was invented to level the playing field so that beginners and amateurs are not dealt with harshly in a game. The golf handicap is the playing ability of a golf player which is calculated in the middle of a game using the number of shots already made by a player. Using a golf handicap calculator, the golfer is given a set of new strokes which he can remove from the total score at the end of the game. When the game comes to a close the player removes the strokes and the less he removes the less the handicap.

The golf handicaps have been used to level the competition especially when men and women are playing against each other. Since men are thought to be the better players, they are more advantaged physically, and therefore they have a lower handicap than women. The same is the case when pros are playing against amateurs. The better you are, the less your handicap.

The golf handicap trackers come into use in a round of golf. Some women are pros and they are better at golf than the male beginners they are playing against. In these cases this can be looked at so that no one has an unfair advantage over the other in the game.

Generally speaking, if you are playing golf against someone who has been there before, golf handicaps can be used to your advantage. In this case you will be given more shots per round, a way to bring both of you to the same level. The pro will have to prove his expertise with the few extra shots, against the amateur who has been given more shots than him. The amateur on the other hand is given a chance to prove himself; that even against a pro golfer, he can be a good player too, thanks to the golf handicaps.
